Hello everyone! I thought I would share a little video with you. It shows you a little glimpse of one of the things I do as a farmer.
For a while, because of the dry weather we were having, the grass turned brown and stopped growing.
Thankfully, we have now had some rain, and everything is green and growing again.
But, because they got behind, I decided to let the pastures rest a little while and feed some hay to the cows.
Hay is just grass that has been dried, so it can be stored for later. Generally it is fed in the winter when the grass is dormant, or you have snow on the ground. But it is also helpful in times like this.
The cows eat most of the hay, but some of it they trample into the ground like you can see at the end of the video.
Some farmers may see this as wasteful, but it is actually one of the best things you can do for the soil. The organic matter in the hay, along with the manure from the cows feeds the soil life, making for healthy soil.
This is just one of the tools I use here on the farm to heal the land! Thank you for your support as that makes things like this possible!
