Saving money while eating healthy can be hard to do. I talk about it a lot on here, but I know what it’s like to need to stick to a budget, and still want to do the things that are important to you. So, any little trick that can get you more bang for your buck is helpful!
So, in this post, I am going to show you how to get three meals out of one whole chicken!
Meal 1: Chicken! This is the obvious one, but it is the starting point. Cook you chicken, whether it be in a crockpot, oven, or otherwise. Serve it up with some sides of veggies, rice, or whatever else you would like, and enjoy.
Meal 2: More than likely, you will have more chicken than you can eat in one meal, and you certainly will have some along the back, or hard to get parts of the chicken that didn’t get eaten. Pick this meat off and shred it up. This can be put in Ziploc bags and frozen, and used for soup, pot pie, or chicken salad.
Meal 3: Ok, so this may not exactly be a meal, but it is an important ingredient, and it is full of nutrition. Chicken broth! Broth is easy to make. Simply take all of you bones that are left from cooking the chicken, and put it into a crockpot, or similar slow cooker. Add a little water to bottom to help it keep from sticking, and help it cook down, and let it cook on low until it is all cooked down into a broth. Put the broth in freezer bags or cups, and set it in the freezer, or use it right away to drink, or combine with your shredded meat to make soup!
So there you have it! Get yourself a chicken or two, and you’ll have a couple of meals in one!
